Angela Iarocci and Claire Ironside participated in the Staging Sustainability conference at York University on Thursday, April 21st, 2011 as part of the panel Community Engagement with the Environment through Design Process and Practice, chaired by Michael Longford, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts. Angela and Claire presented Fish and Chips: Making the Daily Special featuring the projects FishNet and Pomme de parterre. Other members of the panel included Mason White from Toronto-based Lateral Office, Elísabet Gunnarsdóttir, director of the Fogo Island Arts Corporation and Cynthia Hathaway, a Canadian designer based in Holland.

The same evening, the panel appeared at Harbourfront Centre in Toronto as part of the Innovators & Ideas program. The event, Making Do: Exploring the Role of Creative Production in Achieving Sustainability addressed the challenges designers currently face in re-thinking the process of making while contributing to a sustainable collective future.

Many thanks to Melanie Egan, Head of Craft Department at Harbourfront Centre for her invaluable support in organizing the event and to York University, Office of the Vice Provost and the Department of Design and Sheridan College Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning for their financial support.
